State College Spikes starting pitcher Basilio Alvarez wasn’t the only former Williamsport Crosscutter in the visiting dugout of Tuesday night’s Opening Day game at Bowman Field.

Mother Nature wins on opening night

For most of two innings at Bowman Field, State College Spikes starter Basilio Alvarez dodged trouble.

Then, after D’Arby Myers hit a two-run, slap single to right field to put the Williamsport Crosscutters ahead 2-0, Mother Nature did the dodging for him — for now, at least.

Spikes, Crosscutters Rained Out in Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT, PA — Tuesday’s season opener between the State College Spikes and the Williamsport Crosscutters has been suspended due to rain. It will be made up on Thursday, June 21st beginning at 6:05 pm as part of a doubleheader. The Spikes were trailing by the score of 2-0 heading into the top of the third when the rains came, forcing the suspension. On Thursday, the game will resume from that point and will play through the regularly scheduled nine innings. The second game will begin a half hour after the completion of game one, and will be a seven-inning contest.
