Spikes With Seventh Straight

2 07 2007

University Park — The State College Spikes and the Batavia Muckdogs locked up in a classic pitcher’s dual on Monday evening, with State College coming out on top 1-0. Spikes hurlers combined to allow only two hits on the night, and the Muckdogs never got a runner passed first base in the game. Offensively, the Spikes were not much better, collecting only three hits, but they took advantage of 10 free passes from the Muckdogs to get the victory. The win was the Spikes seventh in a row, matching the franchise high set last season from August 7th – 13th.

Durham clubs grand slam as Spikes win streak hits six

2 07 2007

By Guy Cipriano – gciprian@centredaily.com

UNIVERSITY PARK — Outfielders are never a scarce commodity in a professional organization.

The Pittsburgh Pirates currently have 39 outfielders playing for seven different teams. The State College Spikes lead the lengthy list with seven outfielders on their roster.

The numbers suggest many things, and perhaps they are one reason Miles Durham showed no on-field emotion after Sunday’s 6-1 victory over Batavia.
