Another road loss to Yankees drops Spikes back to .500

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The State College Spikes ended their six-game roadtrip the same way they started it.

Starter Moises Robles allowed five hits and three runs in five innings as the Spikes fell to the Staten Island Yankees 4-3 Sunday at Richmond County Ballpark.

The Spikes (16-16) completed their six-game roadtrip with a 3-3 record. The trip started with Robles sustaining a loss at Hudson Valley.

Pirates fortunate to have Spikes

Their stadium doesn’t have a major flaw. Their employees are some of the most accommodating in baseball.

The combination turned the State College Spikes into one of baseball’s most coveted free agents last fall.

The courtship period didn’t last long for the Spikes as they ditched the St. Louis Cardinals to sign a four-year player development contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Spikes close road trip with defeat

After a six game road trip that included games against two different
foes, the State College Spikes ended up right where they started — at
.500.

Yesterday afternoon, with a series win against the Staten Island
Yankees on the line, the Spikes couldn’t find their offense, losing the
rubber match 4-3.
