Spikes on the move

Brandon Williams was bumped back up to Altoona Friday. Once again, it appears this will be a short term move just to give Altoona some weekend pitching help.

Taking Williams place on the roster is Jacob Cuffman. Cuffman was a 14th round draftee of the Pirates out of Butler PA HS back in 2003.  Jacob was bumped down to State College from Hickory and will start Sunday night’s game.

Sweet Smelin

UNIVERSITY PARK — Smelin Perez started the season at third base. He played second base in his third game. He moved to shortstop for his fifth game.

So what is Perez?

He could be one of the State College Spikes’ most important players.

On a team loaded with outfielders and catchers, yet thin on infielders, Perez has turned into a valuable commodity.
