SPIKES GAME NOTES
17 08 2007SPIKES STARTING PITCHER: RHP Nicolas Suero. Suero will make his 11th appearance (ninth start) of the 2007 campaign tonight. The righty from Elias Pinas, DR is 3-3 with a 2.98 ERA having tossed 54.1 innings. Suero is currently riding a personal two-game winning streak. Against Tri-City on August 12, Suero pitched 5.0 scoreless innings while giving up just four hits the entire night while being the beneficiary of the Spikes biggest offensive outburst in club history, when State College prevailed 16-0. Dating back to August 7, Suero has just allowed one run and nine hits over his last 11.0 innings of work which spans two starts. In those two starts, Nicolas has recorded 22 ground-ball outs. Suero has established himself as one of the finer control artists in the New York-Penn League this year, as he has struck out 32 batters while walking only two. Nicolas also enjoys the confines of Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, as the righty 1-1 with a 2.86 ERA at home, while he has induced eight of his nine ground-ball double-plays at home. Suero has made two appearances against Williamsport this season (one start on July 4) and is 1-0 with a 4.09 ERA in 11.0 innings of work.

State College’s bats cool off in loss
17 08 2007WILLIAMSPORT — This might have been a delayed reaction to a concept that confused the State College Spikes for three days.
Before the three-day New York-Penn League All-Star Break, the State College Spikes smacked a team-record 18 hits, scored nine first-inning runs and pounded Tri-City 16-0.
Judging by their start Thursday, the Spikes carried memories of the game wherever they went during the three-day sojourn. Judging by the ending, the break could have halted some mid-August momentum.
Eight uneventful innings negated a two-run first as the Spikes started the post-break phase of the season with a 4-2 loss to the Williamsport Crosscutters (22-32) at Bowman Field.
