SPIKES SWEPT BY CYCLONES

The Brooklyn Cyclones swept the State College Spikes by winning the final game of a three-game set at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Monday night by the score of 4-2.

With the loss, the Spikes (13-13) have lost three in a row, and have tasted victory juust twice since their nine game winning streak was snapped on July 5.

Very Brady Nights On Tap For Spikes And Curve

ALTOONA- Former child star Christopher Knight, best known for his role as “Peter Brady” on the hit television show The Brady Bunch will meet and greet fans at tonight’s 7:05 p.m. State College Spikes game at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park and Tuesday’s 7:05 p.m. Altoona Curve game at Blair County Ballpark as part of the two clubs’ popular “2007 Retro Celebrity Series”. Ballpark gates will open at 6 each night.

Veteran players proud of past

UNIVERSITY PARK — Willie Fordham, Jim Weedon and Dan Werner spent more than an hour before Sunday’s State College Spikes game against the Brooklyn Cyclones describing the conditions they endured to play baseball.

Too bad the players lounging on the leather furniture, munching on fresh fruit and watching television didn’t stop by Porter Gardens for a few minutes.

They missed the reason why they can work in comfort.

Spikes’ drought continues

UNIVERSITY PARK — Brooklyn starter Dillon Gee encountered a problem Sunday against the State College Spikes.

“I couldn’t get to strikeout counts,” Gee said.

The problem can be considered microscopic compared to the ones facing the Spikes.

“Draw Ike the Spike” contest, co-sponsored by the Centre
Daily Times and the State College Spikes.

Megan, whose drawing is above, was announced as the winner at Sunday’s Spikes’ game.

Spikes honor former Negro League players

It’s all for the love of the game, as Medlar Field at Lubrano Park commemorated the Negro Leagues last night, joined by former Harrisburg Giants players in a tribute.

Three players who sometimes played without the proper equipment, coaching or facilities joined curious spectators at the ballpark to share their stories about the game they loved — and still do.

Spikes fall to seasoned Cyclones

The State College Spikes are crossing into uncharted territories. To their dismay, these areas are not conducive to winning.

After a successful start to the season that included a nine-game wining streak, the team has begun to spiral downward, something the Brooklyn Cyclones have perpetuated in the past two nights.
