Injuries affecting Spikes’ consistency in lineup

25 07 2007

UNIVERSITY PARK — The State College Spikes’ leadoff and cleanup hitters are having trouble reaching the same starting lineup.

Shortstop Brian Friday, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ third-round draft pick from Rice, was scheduled to miss his second straight full game Tuesday against Aberdeen with a hand injury he sustained when getting hit by a pitch last weekend at Staten Island.

Friday never received a chance to watch Tuesday’s game from the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park dugout because it was rained out. The Spikes (16-16) and IronBirds (15-17) will play two seven-inning games beginning at 6:05 p.m. today.
